Karte der Umgegend von Mühlhausen in vier Blättern – Alsace District
Map of the area around Mulhouse in four sheets at a scale of 1:25,000
German map set that appears to have markings relating to the 1914 Battle of Mulhouse, showing military positions, some in coloured pencil and some in ink.
The sheets have been trimmed so that most of the marginalia is missing, although titles and, in some cases, the scale strips have been pasted onto the reverse.
Slip case with minor scuffs and a little edgewear, otherwise very sound – maps inside vary in condition,, please see detailed item description for full details of condition of each sheet, but a couple are very good and one has wear, especially along folds, and is a little grubby with some ink streaks.. three have markings which appear to relate to military positions in WW1, relating to the Battle of Mulhouse.
Sheets and conditions as follows:
Sheet 1 Mulhouse West – Mülhausen (Ost)
Good – A little minor dust along folds with the paper lifting a little in a couple of places. (military?) markings in red coloured pencil
Sheet 2 Mulhouse East – Mülhausen (West)
Acceptable – clearly the most used. A little tanned; wear and dust along folds with the paper worn and lifting in places; one or two ink blots and a couple of streaks; markings in blue
Sheet 3 Altkirch
Acceptable – A little tanned; wear and dust along folds with the paper worn and lifting in places; one or two small marks; markings in red coloured pencil
Sheet 4 Landser
Good – a little wear at the edges and thge paper along folds lifting a little in places; one or two small marks but generally nice and clean
Dates are missing but the style and content suggest around 1905. Also, this map was obtained with a number of others around that date.
